How to prepare for a job interview - Complete Guide step by step

Do you have a job interview?  there are certain things you will need to do in advance to prepare and some points to keep in mind during interview. This article will provide you practical tips on how to prepare for a job interview.

Following this guide step by step can ensure you make a positive impression on interviewer:

1. Practice to answer basic questions: There are several questions that you’re pretty much  guaranteed to be asked, for example:

Why do you want to work with us? What are your strengths and weaknesses?  and Where do yo see yourself in next five years? etc So, be prepared..

2. Study your resume: Your resume is all the interviewer has to go by in order to get to know you. They may pick things out from it and ask questions. Even though you'll have a previous job listed that was a few years ago. the interviewer may ask you to explain.

3. What to bring to a job interview?:  Prepare all the necessary documents like Resume, ID Proofs, and Educational Certificates. Bring some extra copies along with a list of references to offer the interviewer. A pen and notepad are always useful to make important notes during interview. Also you can bring your laptop or tablet to show the interviewer what you have accomplished in the past.

4. Research: Ensure you do your research on the company before your interview. Review the company’s website.  It will ensure that you make the best use of the interview. Appreciate the company and the work the hiring manager’s team has done.

5. How to Dress: Your image is what makes the first impression, So be well groomed. It’s always better to overdress than under-dress, and find out what the corporate dress culture is, before you walk through the door.

6. Arrive 15 minutes early:  Know where you're going, how much travel time you need, and how to get to the interview location. Make sure that you're not late.

7. Mark your Presence: When you arrive at a job interview, introduce yourself to the receptionist. Explain your reason for being there and ask for the interviewer. You may be asked to complete some forms on arrival. Interviewers may ask their assistants/receptionist for an opinion of the candidate. Ensure you are professional and polite to the staff.

8. During Interview: After completion of all the above steps,  its time for the Interview. Make sure you follow these simple but effective point:

a)  Greet your interviewer with a handshake, The proper, professional way to shake is using the entire hand, extending your arm. Practice with a friend, If this doesn’t come naturally. Wait for interviewer to give you signal to sit down.

b) Answer their questions confidently and properly. Make sure you provide the correct information. You can also ask questions about the job to show that you are interested.

c) Stay calm, don't be nervous. Maintaining Eye contact shows how confident you are. Also keep a check on your speaking voice and body language during interview. Smiling naturally will also make you appear confident, friendly, and approachable.

d) If you are sitting at a table, place your document folder on the table rather than keeping it on your lap. If you have a handbag, place this on the floor by your feet.

e) Your cell phone should be turned off and out of sight. Fiddling with your phone gives the impression of a lack of interest.

f) If your interviewer offers you a glass of water, take it, even if you’re not thirsty. This can help buy you time to formulate an answer to a difficult question or just give you a moment to center yourself.

g) Some interviews (usually second or third) are conducted over a meal. Dining with a prospective employee allows employers to review your communication and interpersonal skills, as well as your table manners.

9. Closing an Interview: Toward the end of the interview, thank the interviewer for the time they spent interviewing with you and for the chance to learn more about the company.

Let the interviewer know that you think the job is an excellent fit and you are very interested. Sending a thank you note by mail after the interview is a very gracious gesture that will keep your name in the interviewer's mind.

10. Follow up: Sending a mail or call within seven calendar days from the interview to know about their decision is a appropriate way to follow up. Don't make it too early or frequently.

Remember that  it’s an opportunity for you to sell yourself to the company, but also to learn more about the workplace and environment are a good fit for you. When it comes to interviewing, knowing the rules ahead of time is a good start and practice makes perfect. Following interview guide will help you to get ready for your interview.

GOOD LUCK!!
